Who are these clowns? Advertisements don't make our kids fat; parents who feed their kids too much food make their kids fat!

The Center for Science in the Public Interest says parents can't help that their kids are fat because they are bombarded by fast food advertisements all the time. Well I guess the parents can't be at fault then. They just *have* to give their kids everything they want or see on the TV.

Are parents looking for another reason not to be at blame? Parents who have fat or obese kids should have these kids taken away from them because this is a form of child abuse. Lock these people up.

Why are people fat? Maybe because food is too cheap. There was an interesting article in the NY Times a while ago that essentially linked rising obesity levels to the fact that farmers are encouraged to overproduce (corn in particular) by government subsidies. This results in an incredibly cheap supply of calories that are turned into processed foods. With such a cheap supply of food available, it pays fast food restaurants to compete for our business, not by lowering prices, but rather by increasing portion sizes. Simply put: Lots of cheap calories available means we'll consume more calories, and therefore get fat. I wish I could post a link to the article, but when I tried to look it up on their website they wanted me to pay

The breadth of choice, and the cheapness of food in the US is pretty incredible to an outsider.
You can get the same stuff in europe much of the time, but it's a lot more expensive for good stuff, so you wouldn't buy/eat as much.

The US is the ultimate destination for cheap tasty food. Damned impressive portions too.

You'll have to make the doors to those fast food places 2 feet wide by law, (and board up the drive-in service hatch) so that anyone who overdoes it just can't get in.

This is the same outfit that bagged on just about every type of restaurant before, if memory serves me right. They bitched about movie popcorn and nachos and we all just laughed. No one ever pointed out to these people a simple fact, we eat it because it TASTES GOOD, not because it was healthy. I hate science groups like this, they take the obvious and try to shove it about 3 steps too far. We ain't stupid, we know if we eat at McDonalds or Burger King that it isn't exactly good for our health. We all made that choice a long time ago, why go out and try to make a statement about the obvious.

Here is my attempt: studies show that 99 out of a hundred drivers that go over the speed limit get to their destination faster
